What a great day finding this web site. I have been looking all over for
"zoomie" and Jim Canicci, who taught me more about the SINS Mk 3 Mod 4 than I
ever learned in school. I probably have the date wrong because so much is lost
in a fog that I recently came out of, but I remember getting transferred from
the Gurnard to the Puffer because there was a shortage of Nav ET's. My first
thirty minutes on the boat and Jack Farris had a nickname for me, actually two;
"chrome dome" or "baldylocks." I would really like to hear from you guys because
I am just completing my second career and ready to retire from police work.

Comments: Served on board as an EM3 - EMCS. Commissioned LDO in 80. Tours on Nimitz (CVN-68), Simon Lake (AS-33), CSS-16, Casimir Pulaski (SSBN-633G), McKee (AS-43) PMA (Desert Storm 91 - Attack of the Stealth Tender), CSG-5, CO USS San Onofre (ARD-30), PMA NSSF New London, PMA TRF Kings Bay. Had the pleasure of docking Puffer in San Onofre in July 95 - last in service docking for both Puffer and San Onofre - after a hull blast and a paint job the old girl looked like she was fresh off of the building ways - sad to see her go. Would love to hear from Puffer sailors. I wonder what ever happened to Sweet Daddy Franks.

Comments: The Puffer was the best ship I ever served on. The crew was always among the best. Puffer always felt like home. Since signing on to this web page several months ago, I have been contacted by several of my ex-shipmates and I can say that I enjoy hearing from everyone. I retired from the Navy in 1981 and have worked in the commercial nuclear arena since. I am now mainly dedicated to emergency diesel generators and management positions. I work as an independent contractor and am usually contracted to troubled nuclear plants. Since retirement I have accumulated several degrees, to ensure long term employment.
I am really interested in learning how I have affected the lives of the fine people that I served with. The lord knows you have affected my life in a truly positive way.
You the former crew of the Puffer are the greatest.
Waiting to hear from you.

Grant Nelson, Gary Dillard. Drop me an email for crying out loud!
Comments: The best memory of Puffer I have was when Lt. Koutalidis had RM1 Grant (anybody heard from him?) type up a fake radio message announcing that ORSE would be held two weeks early. Ha,ha,ha. The ensuing Angles and Dangles were the best I ever experienced (with the exception of coming to PD in that typhoon off Japan during WestPac). Would love to hear from any of the old RM buddies. Drop a line.
Comments: 1/17/00 Has anybody heard from Doc? HM1(SS) Robert (or was it Roberto?) Fernandez??? Does anybody remember who it was he replaced?

Comments: Just wanted to drop a line to all those I served with during the final months of Puffer. It was good to see T.C. up here at SubScol as well as Peety, Dillard and Joel Parfet. Padilla had called me a couple of times from SubTraFac in San Dog saying him and Billy Trevino were still doing good down there. As for myself, I'm on my way back to San Dog with orders to the USS Helena and I saw Lt Metzger at SubScol goin' through SOAC saying he was headed there as well... Also want to say Hello to all those from the Sonar Shack- Scotty, Kevin, Craig and David Ball. What I remember about Puffer was the Coner Fantasy Football League we had set up.
