Comments: It has been heart warming to see so many of my shipmates logged on here. I was known by my middle name (Corey) while aboard. I reported aboard, in Guam, via number one line after being convinced to be an "honorary leg" tossing Mike Sweny in for making First Class. I was also pretty much known as a "dirt bag" while aboard; but what I learned on Puffer held me in good stead for the rest of my Naval career. I transferred from Puffer Maru late in the first overhaul, as a Second Class making First Class in route to the Kamahamaha (a big mistake for a fast attack sailor). My first shore duty was at the Fire control shop in Groton CT; where Zoomie was in the office next door. Next I went to the Aspro. She was in the yard at Bremmerton right across the peir form the Puffer. One of the crewmembers was Jim Foldesi, and Jack Farris was back on Puffer. While aboard Aspro there was a severe lack of CPOs, three senior Firsts were moved into the CPO Quarters (I was one of them). I qualified and stood watch as Dive as a First. And finally made CPO. Those of you who made either or both WESPACs remember how crowded Subic was. Well, pulling in there in 1980 and having no other ship there was mind boggling. I made two WESPACs and an ICEX aboard Aspro then transferred to Hawkbill. I also made two WESPACs and an ICEX on her. During the ICEX Hawkbill made some 43 verticle surfaces. Now to blow my own horn - I was the dive of record for 40 of them. I retired from Subscol in 1989 and in 1996 move to Phoenix AZ. I would be nice to be able to attend a reunion of Puffer and see some old shipmates. Chris and I (married just before the yard) have two kids and two grandkids. How she put up with this old sub sailor for damn neer 28 years I'll never know. I am sorry to hear of the loss of John Will. And the loss of the great boat.
Comments: I'd like to pass on something very interesting (especially to RM (now IT), TM, QM, and IC) that has happened to submarine manning. I'm not sure when this all started or what will be the final result. TMs, QMs, ITs, and ICs are no longer rates aboard the Boats. TMs are now MMs; and IT, QM, & IC are now ETs. Does that mean that somewhere in the future that FTs and STS will be converted, too? Don't know. Just thought that you'd like to know.

Thanks for the effort on the site! I'm living in San Jose, CA and still in the reserves. I was with EOD (diving) for a few of years and then transferred to the Coast Guard in 1998. I'd enjoy hearing from anyone from the Super-K days!

Comments: Great page Don! You always were the go out and get it done type of guy. I still want to know if the rumor is true about big Joe Warren and MMC Kriskowski. Are they really now working together on some small island near Midway? And what ever happened to Cedric Bell (Self proclaimed Spook Nuke) and Ron Reagan? It's like they fell off of the face of this earth. And what about Eddie Annelli? I am now one of the few still working in Nuclear power at Prairie Island Nuke plant in my home state of Minnesota. I really like my job as I did on the Puffer it's just that I no longer have to deal with the Navy BS. I do however have some great memories, like the time we were all kept on board after a long run until someone coughed up the rag that the Kahki's found and we stole it back. At the time it wasn't much fun but now I remember it fondly. Lil' Rob had already snuck it off the boat so we couldn't turn it in if we wanted to (which we didn't). Finally the Flagorian Butt Beast! got the nads to go to the Eng and tell him that we had TDU'd it earlier that day finally ending the long stand-off. Thanks for that one Tony. Talk to ya later. Joe

Comments: Well I'm out of the navy and living in Meridian Mississippi. I got a job as a Firefighter/E.M.T. and enjoying the hell out of it. Where else can you go to work and rip out walls, pull down ceilings, and generally create havoc with a axe, and not be put in jail.

Comments: Being onboard Puffer taught me to respect my life and freedom. After nearly 4 years there, I made and lost alot of friends. E-mail me and tell me what your up to (especially the M-divvers). The best part of being on Puffer was the day they cut in up, because it was also the beginning of my life as a civilian.
Your shipmate,
Damien

Comments: Had a great time on the artic deployment, but kicking the A gang Div. butts every day did become taxing. There wasn't a day that the weakest Sonarman (graham) couldn't beat the ammine out of those no-showering, monkey imitating, wanna be SAN 2 diving wimps. Hey Hillborn did you make it back to college?
